Little Italy

A journal of San Diego

Look between the restaurants: piazzas, seating and recreation spaces reveal several different kinds of neighborhood life.

Little Italy’s public spaces offer an alternative to a guide organized only around dining. Piazza della Famiglia occupies West Date Street between India and Columbia streets; the neighborhood association describes tables, chairs, umbrellas and a fountain within a mixed-use setting.[17] Look at the relationships between those elements and the surrounding entrances, rather than only at the central feature.

Amici Park offers a different mix: a dog park, amphitheater and bocce courts, created through collaboration between the association and the school district.[18] Read the official pages for events and use information before planning around a particular activity. Comparing these spaces shows why a neighborhood benefits from more than one type of outdoor room.
